Lanzarote is a Spanish governed Canary Island. All 7 Canary Islands are governed politically by The Spanish Government in Madrid, Spain, and Lanzarote, locally by The Spanish Government in Las Palmas.  Lanzarote is located c. 200 miles off the west coast of Morocco. The island is approx. 28 miles long by 12 miles wide @ maximums. 


Villa is located between the villages of Macher & Tias near to the LZ-2 on Lanzarote.  

 

The southern parts of Lanzarote including the Parque Nacional de Timanfaya, evolved  when the volcanoes erupted in the 1730’s. The last volcanic eruption was in 1825. The resulting small black pebbles, seen all over the island, are known as picon. Films; including ‘One Million Years BC’ and James Bond’s ‘Moonraker’ were filmed on the southern volcanic parts of the island.  Lanzarote is the northern-most of the 5 main Canary Islands. Lanzarote’s population is c. 65,000. The currency is Euro.  The Capital Town of Lanzarote is Arrecife. The old, historical capital is Teguise.


Lanzarote is a popular and beautiful tourist island. There is one airport, Arrecife Airport,(ACE) handling flights from many northern European countries including the UK, Eire, France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, The Netherlands and domestic flights from mainland Spain.
